I’ve always said that my children give me inspiration and that is certainly true of our new baby girl, Verity.
Since her arrival my photographic passion has been reborn and I feel rejuvenated. Her arrival was one of the more straightforward of all of our four children, she came of her own accord and we left hospital just 7 hours after the birth. Unfortunately things didn’t carry on so smoothly and as I write this my wife and Verity are now spending their fourth night in the hospital. They are fine and hopefully will be home very soon. So I have been holding the fort at home and trying to keep 3 young girls entertained and happy.
I won’t lie, it has been a stressful few days but when I look at my girls as they lie peacefully in their beds all the troubles disappear. Similarly as I look through the photograph collections of my family I get lost in them and problems seem to evaporate.
Today has been a good day. Paying board games and dancing to music, the simple things make children happy. Of course I always knew this but like most people I over look the simple things and get lost in trying to find complex ways to entertain the children. Taking a few shots of them at play captures moments that are so memorable beyond the image that is seen.
Being a wedding and portraint photographer can be the most rewarding job but nothing can beat the rewards of being a Dad. I love the fact that my children inspire me and I hope in turn that I inspire them to be what they want to be and so what they want to do. But for now I’ll let them be children and I’ll be there to soak up every second.
